Cupcake Love

My new denim dress from Fashionista’s Market.  It took me a while to post because, as with everything, I had to do some alterations including hemming and shortening straps.  Ah, the trials of being a shorty-patorty…  The necklace is made from a broken bracelet I found at a thrift store on sale.  It went from being a four-strand cuff to a two-strand necklace with a couple of easy fixes and findings.

I threw this last photo in here just to make your mouth water.  I got these little babies as an afternoon snack. They are beyond scrumptious cupcakes from Hokulani Bake Shop at Restaurant Row near downtown Honolulu.  On the left are two lilikoi cupcakes with lemon cream cheese frosting.  On the top right is a guava-strawberry cupcake with cream cheese frosting.  And on the bottom right is my all-time favorite cupcake: snickerdoodle with cinnamon and sugar cream cheese frosting.  YUM!

Belles and Baubles

I have always loved costume jewelry: huge, statement pieces that border on ridiculous.  This new necklace that I picked up last weekend is no exception.  I have been looking for something exactly like this for a while now and instantly fell in love with it.  Even better was the price – 10 buckaroos at a store that I will be visiting frequently in the future no doubt.  The boutique is a little consignment and vintage shop on Kapahulu Avenue called The Clothes Chick.

It was decently cold this morning, thus the socks.  Hawaii cold = mid 70′s, but still…

Where the Wild Things Are

Over the weekend, the hubby and I took a little trip to the Honolulu Zoo.  It’s been years since either of us have been there, so it was a lot of fun just walking through all of the exhibits and meeting friends of the furry (and scaly) kind.  We also met up with family and our 6 month old nephew.  It was fantastic to be so carefree on the weekend.

In the Mix

Last weekend, I finally made it to a garage sale held monthly at my neighborhood cafe. I had no idea what to expect, but from past events I was keeping my fingers crossed that I would find some great vintage-y pieces. As luck would have it, there was a gal there who was selling amazing shoes and clothes… all in my size! I walked away with 3 pairs of shoes and a tough little vest.

The gal, Aly, works at a store in Waikiki called MixMix.  The store has a variety of designer finds, but the best part is that Aly accumulates her own collection of unique pieces from famous thrift and vintage shops around the country.  It’s like going shopping at Beacon’s Closet, but not having to fly all the way to NYC (although, I would gladly fly there anytime).  Hawaii is starved for many of these shopping options, so it’s nice to have Aly and MixMix to satiate our retail needs.

Inspiration: The One & Only Coco – Part Deux

I honestly could not get enough of the Coco inspiration so I decided to play with a second outfit.

I had coveted this long strand of Japanese pearls from my grandmother decades ago as a child playing dress up. To make a shorter, double stranded necklace, I just hooked the two ends together with an old brooch. Too easy and so perfect. I also had a lovely matching pearl ring to go with the necklace that was my mother’s. But somehow after a slightly intoxicating Halloween night, I’ve managed to misplace it. If I find it, I’ll definitely take photos – it’s one of my favorites.
