Craft: wedding hairpiece

I had the honor of crafting a hairpiece for a friend’s wedding over the weekend.  I used silk fabric, feathers, silk ribbon, crystals and pearls.  She looked beautiful and I was so happy she asked me to make something for her special day.  Me, I was just content to eat platter after platter of crab legs at the wedding.  It was a great night!

Glow up and glow on

Another one of my sister’s photo assignments were long exposures.  So, she brought over some glow sticks and I had to swing them around like a mad woman in the dark.  We have some other fun patterns, but these were the ones I actually put effort into. As I uploaded them to post, I realized that I wrote, “Kris hearts iPad”.  Which is very true as I am still continuing my obsession with the little buddy. It’s name has gone from just ‘Paddy’ to ‘Sheamus O’Paddywagon’.  Thought it sounded more distinguished for my friend.

Below is a teaser photo from the amazing shoot we did with our wedding photographer Christie Pham for our 1-year anniversary. I will be going through the hundreds of photos that she shot to post my very faves.  In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend!  So happy it’s FRIDAY!

The Color Purple

I received another bag of grandmother’s hand-me-downs which included this purple silk skirt.  I probably should have ironed it, but hey – when you are rushing out of the house, grabbing wardrobe from a pile of old clothes you just go with it. I think it added some interesting texture and the light caught the colors well in the sun.

These photos were shot by my lovely sister for her summer high school photography class.  She had asked me to ride my bike up and down the street so she could work on capturing movement.  I started riding with the skirt, but after an unfortunate flashing incident, I got smart and changed into shorts. Can’t wait to show off the rest of my vintage goodies.

Dinner & A Movie

Another food post, mostly just to capture the fact that I actually cooked something edible.

This weekend was utterly relaxing and wonderful. On Friday night, I biked to an impromptu beach BBQ thrown by a friend and slouched around on a blanket watching the sunset. After we ate, we were treated to a beautiful fireworks display and I biked home completely at ease and happily full to get an early night’s rest.

Saturday morning was spent sleeping in and then welcoming my newly fixed TV. After enduring over a year of a broken TV, we finally have the entertainment system of our dreams back! To celebrate, I decided to have a dinner-and-a-movie date night at home. I had watched hour after hour of the food network during the day and was inspired to cook something for dinner. And while out grocery shopping, I picked up Avatar on Blu-ray. The meal was pork chops with a cinnamon apple ginger compote on a bed of thyme and rosemary roasted russet potatoes and veggies. Paired with a California Sauvignon Blanc and an epic movie on surround sound, it was a perfect night!

Rainy day blues

This post was actually in a draft folder for a while, but I thought it was appropriate for today since it’s been so gray and rainy outside.  I love nothing more than to don comfy leggings, blossoming tops and fuzzy sweaters on days where the skies threaten to swallow you up.  In my perfect world, rainy days would be automatic holidays where everyone is forced to stay home in bed surrounded by pillows, drinking hot chamomile tea and reading a good book.  Instead, I am at work developing what I suspect to be carpal tunnel in my right arm/hand and tediously designing a poster that I doubt will be noticed.  Oh well!

In other Debbie Downer news, the rain might also postpone our newly fixed TV from being delivered.  Which means, no World Cup finals for us on a 46″ screen. Sad face.  Again, c’est la vie!

Happy (Rainy) Friday!
